How Sahil Bloom built an audience over a million within 3 years
He grew his audience from 500 followers to more than 1 million, through his consistency and curiosity.
If we were to categorize entrepreneurial influencers, Sahil Bloom would probably fall under heavy-weight. Sahil, who is widely known for his effective storytelling. He currently has four different gigs, among them a venture capital firm, his upcoming book about wealth, a holding company comprising ten cash flows, and his bi-weekly newsletter that’s read by over 400,000 people around the globe. When Sahil talks, one million Twitter followers listen. Today, we are going to break down his success story. Let’sdive in.
Using uncertainty to your advantage
Sahil attended Stanford where he played baseball and pursued a bachelors in economics and sociology. Instead of choosing his career path right out of college, Sahil became assistant coach for the Cardinals and finished a masters in public policy where he took up the opportunity to receive academic advice from former treasurer Condoleezza Rice.
Even after completing school it took Sahil a while to find something he enjoyed. Coincidentally, one of his mentors from Stanford, Jesse Rogers, was doing some innovative hiring at his company. Not long after, Sahil found himself working as an analyst at Altamont Capital Partners, and what began as a first step into the workforce would soon evolve into a blooming career.
From climbing the ladder to building an audience
It didn’t take long for Sahil to impress at Altamont Capital. After two years as an analyst, he was promoted to associate, and later senior associate. In 2018, Sahil then assumed the position of vice president, which he held longest until the year 2021 in which he became an advisor to the firm. Due to his fast accession within Altamont and newly gained insights on markets, it was during his time as vice president that Sahil first took his thoughts to Twitter. With a modest followership of 500 people, Sahil shared his first thread. By showcasing his knowledge of capital markets and using catchy analogies, Sahil slowly but surely grew a finance-interested audience.
‘Scale is undefeated’
Instead of mass (and trash) posting, Sahil became consistent in putting out content that ‘would create value for other people in order to receive value in the form of attention’. Eventually, Sahil decided it was time to capture his audience from social media and start his own newsletter, The Curiosity Chronicle, where he would post about finance but also life lessons he learned along his career. Today, through consistent posting and addressing current topics in finance, that newsletter is read by over 400,000 people. His main take-away from this journey is that the easiest way to build an audience is through consistency. While it took him nine months to grow his first 100,000 in 2021, the next 100,000 followers joined his community within just 45 days.
Currently, Sahil is managing SRB Holding, which comprises 10 different cash flowing business assets, and involves himself with early-stage start-up investing through his company SRB Ventures. Meanwhile, his audience on Twitter has reached a million followers, and even his LinkedIn has gone through the roof with a staggering 250,000 followers.
After an average walk in traditional finance, Sahil has plowed his way through personal finance and wealth creation, inspiring thousands to follow his journey. Fueled by a motivation to demystify finance and economics for the average American, he has successfully built a personal brand that reaches millions of people. Sahil’s story goes to show that despite initial uncertainty, one can find their own path with the right amount of curiosity and consistency.
