Meet Meagan Loyst, the Queen of Gen Z VC
How Meagan Loyst went from 50 Twitter followers to the go-to Gen Z voice
Hey friends,
Gen Z is slowly but surely changing the world. A good example of this trend is Meagan Loyst, often referred to as the “Queen of Gen Z VC”.
Meagan regularly shares her thoughts on the metaverse, NFTs and Gen Z trends with her 40,000 Twitter followers. Her Slack community, Gen Z VC, connects more than 20,000 Gen Z investors, founders, students and builders, and her newsletters have over a million clicks! This is the story of how she made all of this happen.
It’s all about that first step
A high-achiever, Meagan graduated as the valedictorian of her high school and was in the top 4% of her class in college. She wasted no time diving into the world of finance, interning at renowned companies, such as Citigroup and J.P. Morgan, where she honed her skills in asset management, equity analysis, and investing. After graduating college, Meagan began her investing career at Lerer Hippeau, one of the most prestigious early-stage venture capital funds. A Gen Zer in an industry dominated by a significantly older workforce, Meagan felt like she was alone. This led her to discover her passion for sharing her unique perspective on investing, finance, and Gen Z-related trends. Despite initially feeling shy about expressing her ideas, Meagan took to Twitter to share her thoughts with her 50 followers. She saw it as a way to "add a missing [Gen Z] perspective to the equation," and slowly but surely, her voice began to gain traction.
From 0 to 100 in a couple of tweets
Meagan's passion for Gen Z-focused content and investing struck a chord right from the start. Soon after joining Lerer Hippeau, she took her enthusiasm to the next level by creating her own Slack community. What began as a small group of like-minded VC enthusiasts quickly evolved into a vibrant movement, with Meagan at the helm, attracting Gen Z VCs, founders, angel investors, startup enthusiasts, and aspiring VCs from more than 80 different countries. She also started a newsletter called ‘The Gen Z POV’, with some of her pieces reaching over a million views.
Meagan's engaging social media content not only helped her build a loyal following, but also caught the attention of the media. Before she knew it, she was being invited on various news outlets, such as Bloomberg TV, Fox Business, or Business Insider, all eager to hear her insights on the intersection of Gen Z trends and investing.
Representing a whole generation
Meagan's commitment to Gen Z VC has established her as the voice of a new generation. Since leaving Lerer Hippeau in late 2022, Meagan has been on a mission to understand the concerns and aspirations of those aged 26 and below. Her unique insights have earned her a spot as a speaker at finance and tech conferences, where she shares her knowledge and conducts workshops on Gen Z and the metaverse for Fortune 500 executives and their teams. Meagan's engagement has not gone unnoticed. It has earned her a spot among the top 10 Gen Z creators on LinkedIn and the title of the "Queen of Gen Z VC." She has become a role model for aspiring entrepreneurs and investors, inspiring them to follow their passions and make their voices heard.
Despite her initial reluctance, Meagan was able to create change and a movement with a size she could have never imagined. Her bravery and determination have united like-minded Gen Zers and given a voice to the younger generation in the world of finance. Meagan's journey is a powerful reminder that sometimes, all it takes to get started is a little courage, and it doesn’t matter how small the first step may be.
